John, I too was wondering what was up with the void of new pages, until checking here yesterday (but too rushed to comment then).
Noki's premature passing is a significant enough 'dusker event as to perhaps call for a front page thumbnail with a simple "RIP Noki" caption, with a forum or page link to the full image and information. Lots of readers likely wouldn't think to look here and notice.
It's perhaps easier to reconcile losing personal rescue pup's over the years to liver and throat cancer at ages 14 and 15.5, though this also reminds me of another I took on at age 7, broke of some bad habits and trained a bit, who then seizured to death sooner than probable brain lesions could be diagnosed just a year later (no budget or ready access to doggy MRI's and neurosurgery even if that did check out).

Hope you're feeling better John. :< I'm sure a cougar as happy as Noki wouldn't want his beloved friends to feel sad for long. He looks so fluffy and cute in your rendition and the eyes are gorgeous.

Dear John,
I was so sorry to hear this sad news about your real-life inspiration. I can see from the photo that Noki was a magnificent being. It is so hard to lose someone you love. I will be praying for you, for you to find comfort in time of loss.

Your painting of Noki is wonderful, and so is the sentiment written across the top. I know you did it for personal, theraputic reasons, but I wonder if you might consider making a print of it available?
Thanks, M.

Thank you all for the kind comments. I really appreciate them.
Thank you very much. I have been doing some similar projects of late and may be making prints of them available. However, many of the subjects are residents of various sanctuaries, and I want to make sure that some of the proceeds would go to them. I will be uploading some of the other work I've done in the Scratching Post section very shortly.

I'm still not sure when Sandusky will resume. I have tried to work on it, but I haven't gotten very far just yet. I don't want to give another date, because I don't want to miss another date. Rest assured, I will finish the Holy Grail storyline. But, as of right now, I can only say that it will update when it updates. Sorry everyone. Take your time John. Loosing someone who is close to you, be it human or animal is very hard on a person. My greatest worry throughout this is that you would end the comic. I've kept that fear bottled up just to see what you would do. You've worked hard to make it this far and you've made it farther than most online comics ever do. I don't see how someone of your skill could just walk away from that, but with an event of this magnitude you just never know. There are several online comics that I have followed in the past that have ended for various reasons. Good comics with lots of potential. Comics that I still visit in the hope that they restart (Filibuster Cartoons did.) I just don't want to have to add Sandusky to that list. Your recent drawings give me hope that this will not be the case. I'll be honest, I really want you to start updating Sandusky again. When I go through the "F5" routine on the Firefox window of comics I follow I've been greatly missing your work. That being said, I don't want you updating again until you are ready. I know what it's like trying to do something when you're heart and mind really isn't into it. I want you posting updates because YOU want to do it, not because I want you to do it. It's sad when what we love no longer walks the earth with us. All we can do is remember the good times from when they were with us. Noki was very lucky to have been brought into a good home with people who cared about him. When the time came, his needs were considered over our own. Even though it undoubtedly pained his caretakers to have him go, holding on would have only caused Noki more pain and would not have changed the eventual outcome. Crud, this is bring back memories of my grandma's death a few months ago and I'm tearing up writing this. She was going downhill and knew the end was near. As much as it hurt to have her gone, she was getting weaker, going blind, and simply wasn't enjoying life anymore. So give Cougar and Tundra plenty of hugs and belly rubs and work at your own pace. I know there really isn't much I can do besides write words of encouragement, but I know that I'll be here waiting when you decide you are ready.

For those of you who don't often visit the other sections of the message board (like me), I have added a few of the other paintings I've done in a similar style to the one of Noki. I have also opened up a DeviantArt page where you can buy prints of the paintings. Here is the address... sandusky78.deviantart.com/

John,
Thank you for posting the link to the Deviant Art site with the Noki poster. Could you double-check the price? It's listed as $0.49, which seems way too low. (I know, odd to complain about a price that's too *low*, but I want you and the sanctuary to get what's fair!).
Thanks,
M.

I hadn't uploaded a larger version with the text, but I'll fix that. The non-text version is available up to 18"x24" right now, but the other version should be available shortly, as well.

There aren't any more that are finished at this time (after Cookie). I will be uploading more in the future, but that should be it for at least a couple of days.

Well this is what I get for keeping my Sandusy tab in firefox on the SATHG link so I don't see the main page. I just found the "update this morning. I agree with you cougarhearted, this is like a nice rain after a long drought. It feels so GOOOOOOD. I've been worrying if there would be a personality shift in the characters when you eventually do finish SATHG and continue with the strip, but it is a relief to see that this is not the case. Yes, I'm a little paranoid here, and it's likely that nothing will placate that feeling of uncertainty until the strip resumes, but that's my problem. Though I'll likely have the hard copies of the strip memorized by September. I was getting worried and been wondering what you've been up to all this time. (Besides the stuff on DeviantArt.) It's good to see that you're expanding what you do even though that means the strip gets put on hold for awhile. You did mention at the onset of SATHG that the large format was a lot of work so it's no surprise that you have to focus on either one or the other. Can't blame you for that. I'll have to continue dealing with my Sandusky withdraw.
