That's funny, because my dog, Cougar, recently cost me $240 after he decided to chew through the wires going from my A/C unit to the house. Unfortunately, it happened while it was still 105 degrees out here in Phoenix, rather than now when it's nice and cool. I'm not sure how "spectacular" it may have been, but he did blow a fuse somewhere along the line. So, it couldn't have been a completely pleasant experience for him.

Speaking of wiring destroyed by pets, once upon the time me and my brother had two gerbils who were occasionally set loose in the house for us to play with them - one day they went missing, and the next day the dishwasher stopped working... A repair guy was called out, and he both rescued the hapless pair from the washer plus repaired some internal wiring they had chewed up, much to my mother's chagrin as she had to foot the bill. My current cats only destroy scratching posts at regular intervals, and shed everywhere, thankfully. What comes to today's comic, that has happened to me so many times when I have tried to hunt down big cat fiction in various forms - since many seem to like to name characters or whatever after felines, while there's no actual big cat content. Plus, I have actually run into "Cougar Town" adverts here.

I've noticed that too.... like especially if I'm bored on the internet and I google "Cougar" (for the sake of researcing or looking at pictures of the big cat, of course), I usually get results with something like "Cougar seeking a man" or "Cougars on the prowl" And Ashley's reply to Sandusky's question to Scott in todays strip was downright priceless. I actually had a serious "LOL!!!" moment with that one, it made the strip! ;D

I actually had a serious "LOL!!!" moment with that one, it made the strip! ;D Today's comic hilariously illustrates the double standards we have today when it comes to gender on TV and in stories. Older men looking for younger women is seen by many as creepy, yet older women looking at younger men gets it's own TV show. On TV, look at how many shows have the husband be either dumb as a post and/or clumsy/accident prone and the woman be really smart/lucky: The Simpson's, Family Guy, Home Improvement, Eureka, Frasier (Crap, I don't watch sitcoms anymore so I can't remember the show names of some of the newer ones.) King of the Hill has it where the husband and wife are more-or-less equal in the area of intelligence, but that is about as good as you're going to get. How far would a show get where the wife was the dumb one and the husband was the smart one? I'm sure there are some, but they are in the minority. "I love Lucy" is the only one that springs to mind, but the difference in intelligence between the two was not very big. Have there been ANY recent popular shows where the wife was the dumb one and the husband the smart one? I know there are plenty of stupid women out there in the world. I do lots of work in jails and see them. Why no representation of them in TV shows? There are some where you have a minor female character be dub as a post, but seldom are they a major character. Back to reality, we are now seeing more and more stories with female teachers sleeping with underage male students so perhaps we are finally getting equality, though it seems the sentences for them aren't as harsh had it been a male teacher with a female student. Yet another reason why I like following online comics. Plenty of people willing to throw off the same tired clichés I do have to laugh at myself reading today comics. I think I've mentioned this before, I read books and such the exact same way Sandusky does, with the book right up against my nose. I'm so nearsighted that even with glasses I have to have it close to read "regular" print. It drove my teachers in school crazy.

The most recent one that I can think of that even comes close would be Dharma and Greg. You might be able to say it about The Big Bang Theory, too, but the guys are still the "goofy" ones, even though they're much smarter.

You might be able to say it about The Big Bang Theory, too, but the guys are still the "goofy" ones, even though they're much smarter. That's the other one I was trying to remember. Yes, they come close, but Penny isn't "dumb" she's just "normal". However the more I think about it, in the context of the storyline, she really does kinda fit the "dumb" mold just because everyone else raises the bar so far. Not 100%, but closer than what anyone else lately has come up with. Dharma and Greg, never watched that one too much. She didn't come across as dumb, perhaps someone who watches more TV than me can give some more input on that. For a multitude of reasons, you are just not going to see a character that is Homer Simpson/Peter Griffith stupid. It would be really interesting to see someone able to pull it off successfully and not just put together a hack job. Sadly, the only time you see dumb girls is in horror movies and all they do is either get killed or get other people killed. Horror movies are something else I don't watch, mainly because I either get nightmares after I watch them or I start rooting for the psyco to finish chlorinating the gene pool.

Awwwwwww. It's so cute to see Sandusky enjoying himself.
Nice metaphor there Scott, but don't pretend you didn't enjoy it. I remember hiking with my uncle's large dogs years ago. It was exhausting, yet absolutely exhilarating trying to keep up with them. It was also nice to have them help pull you up the steep inclines. It's the most fun you will have while getting absolutely exhausted.
Though one mistake I do see is that I NEVER go hiking in shorts. Of course you legs are going to get torn up climbing over things with shorts on. That and Scott doesn't have a canteen. You need to stay hydrated there Scott.
When I think about it: We have Bunker who stops every 3' and Sandusky who stops once every 3 miles. The solution would be to take both of them hiking at the same time and just tie the leashes together. ;D
Well, off I go on my "hike" today. 580 miles to Sturgis, SD for an install. Boss and I are going to see who takes less time. I know he'll beat me, but I'll get there with fewer speeding tickets. Probably won't be able to post again until this evening.

I often go hiking with Cougar in shorts and without a canteen. Of course, it only takes us about 20 minutes to get from our front door to where this photo was taken, so the trips aren't all that strenuous. Plus, the one or two scratches I may get on my legs from wearing shorts are well worth it to not have to deal with the desert heat. Eventually, I'm going to get Cougar a "backpack" to carry water and milk bones, but I have to pay off the damage he did to the A/C first.

Ah, looking at that photo of yours I see why we differ in hiking gear. What works in ND might not be so good in AZ and vice-versa.
Poison Ivy is probably more common in North Dakota then where you live.
Mosquitoes and ticks are more of a problem as well.
The humidity is generally higher so you don't benefit as much by wearing shorts.
I forgot that Sandusky is in Arizona. The terrain I saw Scott and Sandusky climbing reminded me of the Badlands up here in western North Dakota and I got it in my head that this was a weekend expedition. I live in the Red River Vally where the nearest serious natural hill is 20 miles away.

Yeah, poison ivy, mosquitos, ticks, and humidity are all pretty much non-existent here in Arizona.

Yeah, poison ivy, mosquitos, ticks, and humidity are all pretty much non-existent here in Arizona. Ha! Must be pretty nice to be down in Arizona about now. I live in North Dakota as well, and we've been experiencing some VERY strange weather lately. Here, we get an absolutely beautiful, warm September then October comes with rain and snow. LOL!! It actually feels more like Christmas time here rather than Halloween, but at least according to the forecast it's supposed to warm up this weekend.

I've nver really gotten a chance to do anything like that...
And snow in October? I remember getting it in November, 2000, but Other than that, my part of North Carolina only gets it in late January.
If at all, that is. I remember at least once where a Asheburo got some snow. But not even a millimeter where I live, just 20 miles west of that city.

I'm in Sturgis, SD right now. Driving down yesterday it was cold and as I drove west on I-94 the rain got worse and worse with a few spots with it turning to sleet. Once I got past Dickinson it cleared up a bit with a light coating of snow on the ground. As I drove south on Highway 85 it suddenly cleared up and by the time I got to Sturgis it was "jacket optional" weather. Nice, warm and sunny. It's raining a little outside right now, but still nicer than what I left in ND. Of course, saying you're having crazy weather in North Dakota is like saying you're eating Chinese food in a Chinese restaurant. The winters the last few years have been kind of uneventful, haven't had a serious blackout probably since 1997 and it only got down to -30 F for a while last year.
